Poultry and the climatic conditions

Poultry chicken requires proper management, feed, nutrition, hygiene, housing, and management to reach their potential growth.

Hot climate:

Once the temperatures rise the consumption of the feed decreases above the neutral thermo zone. The bird will not spend time in heat or cool as the thermoneutral zone has the effective temperature. The decline of feed consumption for each 1degree Celsius as the temperature raises to thermoneutral temperature.

Hot weather can have a bad effect on poultry performance thus resulting in heavy economic losses on poultry production as a result of impaired growth decrease in egg production, increase in production cost, increase in mortality due to immunity, and reproductive failure.

Cooling aids:

To decrease the temperature in the poultry house sprinklers are to be used

In water scarcity areas sheds should be painted white on the external parts to reduce the room temperature

Constructing a huge roof “overhang” to keep the sun away from the walls

Heat, expired gases and moisture are primary focus in cold climatic conditions Heating systems and temperature should be appropriately fixed in cold climates

House should be constructed far from pollution and we should make sure that their trees around

Maintenance of the birds:

Birds should be given at least 1.2 sq. ft of distance while stocking

Six hours before the feed to should be removed before t the hottest part of the day

To decrease the water temperature flushing of water system twice a day is important

House temperature should be reduced mostly during the nights so the poultry house requires more ventilation

Apart from house fans supplementary fans should be added with a distance of 30 feet apart in the direction of prevailing wind.
